Gentiopicroside (English name: Gentiopicroside, molecular formula: C₁₆H₂₀O₉, molecular weight: 356.32) is a secoiridoid glycoside compound widely distributed in plants of the Gentianaceae family (such as Gentiana scabra, Gentiana macrophylla, etc.), and it is also the bitter component of plants like Swertia and Chloranthus. It usually appears as white needle-like crystals (or powder, light yellow/red crystals), shows color reactions of lactone glycoside compounds, is easily soluble in solvents such as water, methanol, and ethanol, has strong hydrophilicity, poor lipid solubility, and is prone to discoloration in sunlight. 

In medicinal plants, it is one of the main active components in the dried roots and rhizomes of Gentiana manshurica Kitag., Gentiana scabra Bunge, Gentiana triflora Pall., or Gentiana rigescens Franch. There are more than 500 species of Gentiana worldwide, with over 230 species distributed in China, mostly produced in the southwestern region, and some can be used as medicine.
